Tulip Poplar

Made with wood from a Tulip Poplar tree. This wood changes color with age. The green and purple shades will mellow to brown. The contrast of light to dark will remain though not as pronounced. The final brown color resembles different shades of wildflower honey.
Liriodendron tulipifera is called Tulip Poplar or Yellow Poplar in the lumber trade. Sometimes the tree is called Tulip Magnolia. Native to Virginia it grows fast, tall, and straight. The flowers look like yellow tulips sitting on top of the leaves, high in the tree top. One of my favorite woods to turn, spindle number 1 is Tulip Poplar.
