Holly

Made with Holly wood. Ilex opaca aka American Holly is native to the Eastern US. The evergreen leaves, grey smooth bark, and red berries on the female trees make it a favorite tree for landscaping. Despite its frequent planting it is not often available as lumber. The small mature size and and dense branch pattern are contributing factors. It is mostly used in inlay for the white look it provides. I was able to acquire a freshly cut holly tree in 2018. Dealing with green wood is a labor intensive process. I had to saw and seal all of it for controlled air drying. Then I had to wait about one year per inch of thickness for it to dry. The result is an uncommon subtly pretty pale wood.
